[Rumbek, South Sudan, TCT] The Lakes State Ministry of Health received 28 motorcycles donated by the Italian aid organization and Doctors with Africa (also known as CUAMM), to improve outreach during immunization programs in Rumbek East and Rumbek Center Counties.
Speaking to media, while receiving the motorcycles, the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Michael Mading said the bikes would address the mobility challenges being faced by health workers in the state.
“These Motorbikes will be used when we have vaccination campaigns, so they must go up to the cattle camps where the children are, there is no any excuse again. We used to received complains that we are not reaching all the patients, yes, it was because there is no mobility, I don’t think there will be complaints again as long the mobility is available. We want to make sure that all the vaccinators are facilitated and reach everywhere,” explained Mading.
CUAMM representative, Austine Aringo Oguna, says a similar donation of motorbikes will also be made to the Ministry of Health in Western Equatoria State. He urged the health officials to put the bikes to good use.
“The purpose of donating these motorbikes and handing them over to health facilities in both Lakes State and Western Equatoria States is to facilitate the health care, especially at the counties’ health departments. We would ensure that the motorbikes are used for this purpose. They are for facilitating services, collection of reports, supervision EPI and also vaccination as well as dispatching drugs designated destination”.
So many years, children who are at far distance are never vaccinated due to mobility challenges. Also some health centers do not distribute drugs on time simply because of road accessibility. It is expected with the motorbikes the affected counties will be reached with the necessary medical services.
