[Torit, South Sudan, TCT] Former veteran journalist Mr. Albino Okeny Olak sent a strong message to politicians of the newly created Imatong State in Eastern Equatoria, to make unity and security top priorities of the new state administration.
Okeny, who hails from the newly created Imatong State, advised intellectuals of different categories who belong to Imatong State to devote time and energy for creation of proper strategies aimed at uniting the people. He encouraged the people to embrace good leadership of the new State.
In an exclusive interview in Juba this Wednesday, Okeny told TCT that the unity and security for the people of Imatong State is crucial.
In an effort to motivate business community to invest in the newly state of Imatong State, the veteran journalist said that the provision of security is vital.
Okeny was referring to the need for workable conditions for laborers and mechanisms to guarantee security.
He said proper planning for governing Imatong State should be considered seriously by the new administration.
“When we run the state well, we will build the entire republic of South Sudan well by extension,” he said.
Early this month, the President of the Republic of South Sudan issued an order creating 28 states with Eastern Equatoria divided in to two to form Imatong and Lumurnyang states. Recently, the Equatoria caucus of the National Assembly in Juba convened an emergency meeting and asked President Salva Kiir to add one more State to Eastern Equatoria.
Okeny however said the demand for one more state in Eastern Equatoria should still be maintained as in the context of the Equatoria region as whole.
Mr. Okeny is currently the Information and Communications specialist for the World Bank, but has been a long-time Southern Sudanese journalist, who headed Radio Juba and co-founded the Khartoum Monitor before the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
